Ontario, British Columbia and Manitoba issue provincial nominations to candidates

This week, three provinces issued nominations to candidates through their respective Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

Candidates were invited to apply through specific PNP streams based on their past work experience, occupational skills, and education. An immigration stream is a specific pathway to permanent residence that can contain sub-streams, and often targets a certain aspect of a candidate’s profile (most commonly work experience or education for example).

Each PNP uses its own scoring system to rank candidates’ eligibility for immigration. These scores should not be compared across different PNPs.

Certain PNP streams are “enhanced” meaning that they align with the federal government’s Express Entry system to consider candidates who are in the federal immigration pool.

Candidates in the Express Entry pool who receive a nomination certificate from a PNP can earn an extra 600 CRS points, all but guaranteeing them an invitation to apply (ITA) through Express Entry.

On the same day, the OINP invited 958 candidates who had job offers in other in-demand positions; and a minimum score of 54.

The British Columbia PNP (BCPNP) held four targeted draws this week, through the Skilled Worker, International Graduate (includes Express Entry British Columbia (EEBC) option). Candidates with skills in in-demand positions were invited, across five different sectors of the economy.

In total, at least 135 candidates were invited through these draws, with varying cut-off scores for each targeted draw. These were as follows:

The first draw was held under the International Education Stream, and invited 252 candidates that met eligibility requirements, including having a master’s or doctoral degree from a Manitoba school in the past three years, and meeting a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of at least 7. No cut-off score was announced for this draw.

On the same day the MPNP held another draw under the Skilled Worker Overseas stream, inviting 40 candidates under a “strategic recruitment initiative” undertaken by the MPNP. In addition to meeting eligibility requirements, candidates needed a minimum score of 703 under the MPNP scoring system.

Of the 292 applications that received an ITA, 37 were issued to candidates who declared a valid Express Entry profile.
